About

Now Accepting applications for 2017-2018, for ages 2.5 years -6 years. Children must be in pull-ups or self-toileting.

We love our work with children and view every day as an opportunity to see the best that humanity has to offer. We are delighted when we glimpse the compassion of a child rubbing another’s back during story-time or asking another if she needs a hug, and we are joyed at the independence of a three year old setting up a tea party and inviting his friends. Each day is something new and amazing at Olive Branch School, a Montessori Primary School environment serving children ages 2.5-6 years old and their families.

Our school offers a range of experiences that encourage resourcefulness (critical thinking), support the building of self-control, discipline and decision making skills (cognitive and executive functioning) and nurture the emotional and spiritual growth of each child through positive social interactions. Children attending Olive Branch School are a part of a supportive, shared community experience 5 days a week. Our class size is small and responsive with a 7:1 ratio, 14 child maximum. A Montessori education truly gives a child the keys to the world and sets them on the road to loving learning.

Certified In-Home CF502413.

To facilitate learning and consistency for children and staff, all children attend Monday-Friday. Families may choose from 1/2 day 8:30am-12:30pm ($450 monthly), or full day 8:30am-3:30pm ($750) attendance. We are a year round program.

Our lead guide has an AMI diploma, a M.ed, a BA with a minor in secondary education (including intermediate conversational Spanish), certifications as a Youth Fitness Specialist and a Children’s Yoga Specialist (including dance, yoga and movement for children-adults), has developed and implemented curriculum for early childhood programs, is a published author and presenter on wellness and family topics. All of our staff are enrolled in the Central Background Registry, the Oregon Registry Online and have completed CPR/First Aid, training in child neglect and abuse and attend ongoing trainings beyond those required by the state.

Come and take a virtual tour, learn more about resources for families in Multnomah Co. and how our program offers your child the best educational start in life.

Director

Emily Canibano brings her life long passion for learning and teaching to Olive Branch School, a natural extension of her life’s work in supporting early learners and families. As a first time mom she attended Benedictine University studying English language and literature with a minor in secondary education where she was the president of Sigma Tau Delta and Kappa Delta Pi. Her educational presentation earned her a fellowship from the Academy of Urban School Leaders. Although public education was not the right fit, she continued to learn and teach over the years. Development and implementation of curriculum at the preschool level, presenting workshops to NFPs, schools and corporations, teaching Baby Sign,Mommy and Me, birth, lactation, and parenting classes while nurturing a growing family are among her joyful accomplishments. Motherhood has provided many additional learning opportunities; from homeschooling her eldest to raising a child with pediatric epilepsy Emily has expanded her knowledge with each new phase of life. Through her children she connected to the Montessori Method and has been a Montessori parent of children in Primary to Adolescent programs with involvement as a class reading volunteer, fundraising and project coordinator, extra-curricular guide and involved parent.
